Nclex Review And Study Tips

in Exam
If you are interested in pursuing a nursing degree, you should have an idea of where you want to go, and the steps you need to take to get there. This NCLEX review can offer tips and information to help guide and build your career as a health professional.

When you have successfully completed nursing school, you must pass one of two versions of the NCLEX to obtain a license. NCLEX stands for the National Council Licensure Examination, and this is the exam that is required to obtain a license, and be able to legally practice as a nurse in the U. S.. The two versions of the test are the NCLEX-RN, which is for becoming a registered nurse, and the NCLEX-PN, which is a license for becoming a practical nurse.

Nursing students are eligible to take the exam if you have earned a hospital diploma, or an associates or bachelors degree in nursing. The exams are developed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Inc., and they are designed to test the knowledge, skills and abilities that are required to provide safe and effective nursing at an entry level. The test is not just about memorizing facts, or repeating answers from a book, but about instinct and understanding the concept of critical thinking.

The exam questions are generally based on knowledge, recall, analysis and application, which ultimately are based on patients' needs. The topics of the test can be broken down into categories such as safe and effective care environment, management of care, safety and infection control, health promotion and maintenance, psychosocial integrity, physiological integrity, basic care and comfort, pharmacological and parenteral therapies, reduction of risk potential, psychiatric and physiological adaptation.

The exam is five hours long, and includes questions that are mostly multiple choice, but also include some essay questions, drawing and calculating medication dosages and other math related questions.
There is no time limit per question when taking the exam, but one thing to keep in mind is that the computer will give you a more difficult question each time you answer a question correctly. Keep in mind that the points above and below the baseline contribute to your overall score, and when you are finished you will be matched with the questions that represent your level of nursing knowledge.

Test scores are usually sent out two to six weeks after you have taken the exam. If you have failed the exam, you must wait three months to take the exam again, but do not panic, because many people do not pass on the first attempt. If you do pass on the first attempt, you can continue on to get your advanced nursing degree.

There are many resources available that are designed to help you succeed and pass this exam. There are books and study guides you can purchase, or you can access the NCLEX study guides online. The website also offers flashcard reviews, practice questions, definitions and many other types of support and information you might need to pass your exam.

This NCLEX review will hopefully encourage future health care professionals to keep moving forward, and take on the challenges that will expand your knowledge and skills, which will in turn expand your career.
