The respect of an IAS officer is very much evident in our society. One looks upon an IAS officer as a true civil servant whose sole aim in life is to work for his/her society's benefits. They do not merely crib about the ill- conditions in the society but hold the power to make a change, a big change. The IAS officers are posted in strategic position which is based on their ranking in the merit list. Even after the IAS exam, it takes months to train the officers and teach them to handle various situations. During, the exam and the interview, the main characteristic that the evaluators are looking for is the potential to grow. They do not merely recruit an individual who is academically very knowledgeable. He / She should have broad vision and not confined to textual knowledge of the books. The IAS exams judge you on various aspects of your personality and your capabilities. However, the post of IAS requires further refining. This is done during the interview level, where the qualities are testified face to face, in front of highly trained professionals.

Current affair questions are asked to test your knowledge of the country you live in, the one which you plan to work for. Therefore, current affairs are added in, both the exams and the interview session.

Thus, it is not enough to prepare the syllabus prescribed by UPSC for the IAS exam. It is very essential to broaden your area of knowledge by getting updated with current affairs.
